Hello! I'm Matthew and I'm an artist, musician, and aspiring film editor based in St. John's, Newfoundland.

 

From an early age, I've always been captivated by stories - especially the ones told through the medium of film. To this day, the power of that kind of storytelling continues to inspire and move me, and shapes how I view the world. A short while ago, this lifelong passion spurred me to enrol in film school to study post-production, where I discovered a love and aptitude for editing and learned about every facet of the post-production process. The day I sat down to edit my first assignment in Picture Editing I, something just clicked into place and I knew that I had found the perfect gateway into the world of storytelling. At its core, the process of editing is about finding the subtle rhythm and pacing of a story, and its emotional core. I quickly discovered that I had a knack for feeling that rhythm and emotion, and the attention to detail required to succeed.

 

But my biggest take-away from film school was the importance of teamwork and collaboration, and the joys and challenges that come with working on a project with dozens of other people. To be a valued member of a team, depending on others, to be depended on, all in service to a shared vision - I'd never felt that kind of purpose, belonging and trust.
